Leon Bartlett began his career Feb, 25th, 1947 for Standard Oil of California, now known as Chevron/Texaco Corporation. Leon recalls that in Feb of 1947 regular gasoline was selling for 19.5 cent per gallon, all taxes included at the Standard Station where he worked as an Assistant Manager until 1951 when he elected to resign and work for Standard Oil at their Bulk Plant facility in Merced. In 1959 Standard Oil of California offered Leon a commissioned agent position at this same facility.
1979 was a hallmark year for Leon, after many years of long hours and lots of hard work he purchased this facility which he still owns and runs to this day. This has been and still is his pride and enjoyment in serving Merced County with quality petroleum products. Bartlett Petroleum has enjoyed tremendous growth and success in 50 plus years of doing business. Bartlett Petroleum now operates 6 transports, 4 bobtails, 1 oil delivery truck, owns and operates 3 cardlock facilities and sells and distributes over 30 million gallons of fuel a year.
At 83 years young Leon is no longer "on the truck" but his friends and customer's can find him at his desk most every morning talking " fuel and cows" and having a few laughs. In Leon's "spare" time he runs his cattle ranch located just north of Merced. |
